Lecture: London’s 1930s Flats: A Model for Today?
7 December 2015

LS-30s-HOUSING-2-220x220

London’s housing stock expanded by over half a million homes in the 1930s in two celebrated forms: the suburban semi, and the urban art deco apartment block. This latter typology is now being documented and celebrated by housing specialist Claire Bennie, who herself lives in an art deco estate in South London. Claire’s talk will cover the origins and architecture of these beautiful high density blocks, as well as examining how their communities have evolved over 80 years of management. Might there be lessons for today’s new housing developments?

Location: The City Centre, Guildhall, 80 Basinghall Street, EC2V 5AR
